Webinar on “Hemophilia and Thalassemia: Challenges and Measurements”

Webinar on “Hemophilia and Thalassemia: Challenges and Measurements” were held on Sunday January 18, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. by Kateb Research Center in collaboration with Medicine Faculty and Faiz Mohammad Kateb Curative Hospital through Zoom Conferencing Software. This webinar was presented by Dr. Abbas Ali Ramozi, Dean of Medicine Faculty, Dr. Aref Ataei, Head of Faiz Mohammad Kateb Curative Hospital, Ms. Mayra, Karimi, Chair of Future for Afghan Children Foundation, Dr. Zikrullah Faqirzada, Chair of Afghanistan Hemophilia Patient Assiciation, Dr. Sirous Zeinali, Medical Genetics and Dr. Sayed Hamid Mousavi, Director of Kateb Research Center. This is worth mentioning that Mr. Ashraf Parsa was the moderator of the webinar.

This webinar, which was attended by more than 50 participants, started by Mr. Ashraf Parsa who welcomed the presenters and participants, explained the topic and introduced the presenters.

Dr. Sayed Hamid Mousavi started his presentation with welcoming the participants and the presenters and talked briefly about the situation of these two diseases in Afghanistan and the existing challenges and measurements.

Then, Dr. Abbas Ali Ramozi gave detailed explanation about the program of the Medicine Faculty in the area of awareness of these two disease.

Dr. Aref Ataei, talked about the role of Kateb Curative Hospital in curing these diseases and in cooperating with Ministry of Public Health in providing services to the patients with having 5 pediatrician and pointed out the 24-hour servicing of the hospital.

Dr. Enayathullah Hashimi, Head of Central Blood Bank, reported on the services provided to the patients by Central Blood Bank.

Prof. Sirous Zeinali, discussed about the importance of prenatal diagnosis of PND in patients with hemophilia and thalassemia.

Afterward, Ms. Maryam Karimi, presented a detailed report on the services provided to thalassemia patients in Mazar E Sharif.

Dr. Fida Mohammad Paikan talked about the plans of the Ministry of Public health in providing services to the patients of these diseases.

Continuing the webinar, on behalf of hemophilia and thalassemia patients, a number of these patients spoke about the existing challenges of the diseases in country which were answered by the experts of relevant disease. Besides, it was decided that the Ministry of Public Health will provide better services for these patients.
